One Handed NES Controller: Desoldering

And so it begins! Here is the first blog post about the One Handed NES Controller ! First we start off examining the controller. Now, what we need off of the controller board is two things, the 4021 Shift register (the heart of the controller) and the cable that goes from the NES to the controller. That one chip, the shift register I spoke of, that's the thing that takes the buttons signals, condenses them down and sends it down the wires in the actual cord which then gets interpreted by the NES and in turn, makes Mario jump and makes Simon Belmont whip the crap out of Dracula.  We need to remove the components that I mentioned above, so we can re-purpose them in the one handed controller. I only need these two components because the rest will be replicated elsewhere but for the controller to work, I'll need both of these. One Handed NES Controller (part deux, part deux): Putting it together

On to soldering it all together. Here I had to take the schematic and components and assemble them in a way that would fit inside the Wii Nunchuck controller. I started out by cutting piece of board that can fit inside the Wii Nunchuck controller but as large as possible. I realized that I'm going to have to basically have two boards. One that holds the chip and one that has all the buttons and mini joystick then I'll use ribbon cable to connect the two.   I put the chip along with some pull up resistors connected to each pin that a button is going to connect to. A pull up resistor basically pulls the state of the pin high (1) and when a button is pressed it connects it to ground therefore going low (0). The original controller had the same thing, I'm just replicating it here. Also use up,up down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start, Select This is my first ever blog but, I hope to really use this as a way to keep track and interest in my projects. I'll be posting pictures and update this as often as I can. Here's a little information  on me in the mean time before I can actually post any pictures/information of current projects I'm working on. I currently work full time in IT but I have a real passion for Electrical Engineering. I love hacking and modding things and while I may not be the best at it right now every project I do increases my knowledge and skill in EE.
